I used this talk to create a template python package on GitHub that you can just clone-off and tweak. This works for simple python packages that require just code. Unfortunately I hit a snag when I needed to have the package make use of some some binary files that it needed to include. For those that will have the same problem, I created this branch which has a slightly different structure and differences in the setup.py.
